Software giant Microsoft has said it is recalling power cords on 14.1 million Xbox consoles worldwide. The firm said it was doing so out of concern for consumer safety, and the replacement cords are designed to protect consumers and consoles from electrical component failures.
Less than one in 10,000 consoles have been affected by the failures, claimed Microsoft. But 30 consoles caused minor injuries or minor property damage said Microsoft. Seven customers burnt their hand. In the other cases, there was damage from smoke or to carpets and/or "entertainment centres". All regions except continental Europe require replacements for machines made before October 23rd 2003. In continental Europe, consoles made before January 13th 2004 need a replacement cord.
