During a recent press event in New York City, Samsung showed off two new flat screen TVs that will be featured during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
Samsung unveiled the 200nit LCD panel, a 70" diagonal LCD signage panel that is "the brightest panel in the world to be mass produced." The 1080p HDTV uses four panels and can serve as an outdoor display with portrait or landscape modes, operating 24 hours per day, seven days a week. ![]() Samsung's 70" Outdoor Panel The DID LCD is able to adjust picture brightness in "localized" increments, which means certain parts of the image that don't need to be brightened will not be. The TV weighs just 80 kilograms and offers a viewing angle up to 178 degrees. It is able to create four times the brightness of LCDs used today. "We developed this DID panel to jump out and call to you anywhere it's used, making a statement of rich, vivid imagery that passersby can't help but appreciate," said Scott Birnbaum, Samsung LCD Business VP. "Advertisers, outdoor media companies, cities, universities, hotels and malls will be thrilled with this super bright, super-sized display that will command the most regal of appearances when the weather is dismal or even on a very bright summer day." The screen can be used in shopping malls, airports, or other similar locations where large-screen panels are necessary, regardless of the weather. The 70" screen will begin sampling before the end of the year, and will be shown live during CES. Even though CES is still about two months away, expect more manufacturers to begin hinting at the type of products they will unveil during the show. CES takes place from Jan.8 to 11 in Las Vegas, Nevada. CDFreaks plans to send several staff writers to the event.
